How to: Configure your PC to connect to smartdirectors or smartengines secondary ethernet port

This article covers instructions for manually setting up an IP address on your PC/laptop in order to communicate directly with the smartdirectors or smartengines secondary port over a wired ethernet connection. Note: In the example, we are using Windows 10 and Mac OS Sierra Operating systems. 


Windows Operating System:

                             Steps to follow

                                        This is what you will see

Step 1.                                                         

Click the Start icon (or press Start button on the keyboard), and then tap or click Settings.

  • The Settings page appears

 

 

 

 

 

Step 2.                                                         

Click on Network and Internet.

  • The Network and Internet page is displayed.

 

 

 

 

 

 



Step 3.                                                         

Click on Ethernet.

  • The Ethernet settings page appears.

 

 

 

 

 

Step 4.                                                         

Click on Change Adapter Options

  • The Network Connections page is displayed. This page lists each of your network adapters.

 

 

Step 5.                                                         

Right Click on the Ethernet connection and choose Properties from the drop-down menu.

  • This will open up the Ethernet Properties Dialog box.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 6.                                                         

Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on the Properties button.

  • The TCP/IP Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialog box will appear.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 7.                                                         

Note: If any of the fields are already populated in this dialog box as well as the “Advanced…” section, please take a screenshot or write them down as they appear. This is because we can revert back to the original network adapter settings after we are done.

Select the radio button for “Use the following IP address:” and fill them out with the following information as listed.

  • IP address: 192.168.1.10
  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

Mac OS Operating System:

Steps to follow

This is what you will see

Step 1.                                                         

Choose Apple menu and select System Preferences…

  • The System Preferences window will open up

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 2.                                                         

Click on Network icon in System Preferences.

  • The Network pane will be displayed

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 3.                                                         

Select the network connection you want to modify (such as Ethernet) in the list shown on the left-hand side.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 4.                                                         

Click on Configure IPv4 drop-down menu on the right-hand pane and choose Manually.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 5.                                                         

Fill out the fields as follows:

  • IP Address: 192.168.1.10
  • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Router: 192.168.1.1
